Land Rover Discovery Overview
The Land Rover Discovery 2017, the much- awaited SUV, has finally hit the Indian shores. The new design of the Discovery is not as tough and rugged as the old Discovery, but feels really futuristic with that box look being given new curvy edges, sharp looks and a blocky back. The new LED headlamps give it the look of a Range Rover. This new 7- seater Land Rover Discovery gets a completely new aluminum monocoque frame, making it lighter and hence making it more efficient. The SUV still drives like a Discovery, not like a Range Rover or Range Rover sport in any way; it’s all smooth and easy to go with minimal engine noise getting inside the cabin. Land Rover Discovery Exteriors
The new aluminium platform of the Discovery meant it will not just be lighter but even have better performance and efficiency. This new SUV finally gets a monocoque chassis, which also helps to reduce its weight further. In terms of dimensions, there isn’t a major change in the size, however the new Discovery does feel a lot more stylish and aggressive. The sleek headlamps along with a Range Rover like front grille, and there are cuts on the front bumper. Clamshell hood continues, while the step up root too exists in the new design. Discovery has seen a drastic change in its design, not just to make it modern but even premium.
New LR platforms are lighter, and hence the new Discovery for the first-time gets an aluminium body and a monocoque. This has reduced its weight by 480 kilograms. 85% of the body is made of aluminium of which 43% is recycled. This says a lot about Discovery, which was a gas guzzled and now seems to be the next most efficient model on offer.
Land Rover Discovery Interiors
Land Rovers generally have a very ergonomic instrument panel design and the Discovery is no different. The styling on the inside of the Discovery is simple, but it is built for purpose. The materials used on the instrument panel are first rate and the fit and finish is top notch. There are no two ways about it. If you go off the road, you are either on gravel, sand, snow, rocky bed or water. Generally, while driving on snow you wear gloves making operating the buttons and switches difficult. In case of the Discovery’s interiors, after some deep thinking the buttons on the centre console and even the steering wheel are made larger for easy operations.
The instrument panel gets the twin-dial speedometer that is easy to read. The centre console has a touchscreen music system with satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and aux-in input. The terrain-response system is also there on the Discovery 4— a feature that is standard across all the Land Rovers. The power window switches are mounted on the top as well. These are water proof one doesn’t need to worry about it in your windows are open even n rains. There is also a fridge in the centre armrest. There is also cruise control, for easy highway driving. Also, there is a sunroof and two moon roofs over each row.
The Discovery has three rows of seating. The first two rows are well spaced, with decent room for your head and legs. However, the third row is a bit tight. Folding for the first time was difficult, but you do get a flat bed once the second and third row of seats are folded. We found it good enough for short trips. Generally people buying the Discovery 4, might be happier to have at the most only 5 people sitting inside. For more info on Land Rover Discovery visit oksociety.in
Land Rover Discovery Performance
A lighter body weight means the 2017 Land Rover Discovery can now accommodate four-cylinder engines. Hence, it gets a 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel mill that churns 237bhp of maximum power and 500Nm of whooping torque. Then there is also a 3.0-litre V6 petrol and even a diesel. Petrol churns about 336bhp, while the diesel has an army of 255 horses. There is no hiding that the new Discovery shall get a 5.0-litre V8 on an SVR version that should be crafted by JLR’s SVO department. At the same time, a hybrid too is in the making. This will reduce the carbon emissions.
The new Land Rover Discovery mileage has gone up due to the loss of weight. The earlier Discovery used to give around 11 kmpl of mileage, while the new one gives around 13 kmpl, which is not bad at as this kind of efficiency and does justice to the Land Rover Discovery price.
Land Rover Discovery Driving
The Discovery has a smooth and composed ride. The suspension does a good job of absorbing most of the jolts and bumps. The Discovery glides over bumps filtering out most of the shocks from being transferred into the cabin. The handling of the vehicle isn’t impressive considering the size and the centre of gravity of the SUV. But on highways and in city traffic the handling is good, and that is where the Discovery will be spending a majority of its time. Even the steering wheel is light at low speeds and weighs up well when the speed increases. If some day the owner decided to take the Discovery 4 off the road, he shall be rewarded with the most capable off-road system. Five different terrain modes can be selected from the knob on the centre console. Off-roading in a Discovery is just effortless and this is the pinnacle of all the Land Rovers, even be it the voguish and urbane Evoque.

Land Rover Discovery Round Up
The Land Rover Discovery is a very practical car being the most capable amongst its competitors which are the Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, Mercedes GLS and the BMW X5. It might not be the best in terms of performance among the competition but really gives you more value than the money spent on buying it. The features provided are also unique. Al though it looks smaller than the old Discovery, it is actually is quite similar in terms of size. The engines could have been more powered, but these 3.0 L petrol and diesel engines are really impressive. The Land Rover Discovery images can be seen on the Autoportal website, looking all glorious and ready to conquer terrains.
