Hyundai breached the entry-level segment which was long dominated by Maruti Suzuki. And this was possible with its state-of-the-art product Eon launched in 2011. Hyundai Eon Design
Hyundai Eon is targeted at the youth of country and the flowing futuristic looks inspired by the fluidic design language make the car look very stylish. The car does not look like anything like its competitors. Hyundai has designed the car smartly. With the visible lines on both sides of the car, and great detailing done to the grille and headlamps, it does look premium and expensive. The long swept-back headlamps, neatly-designed fog lamp scoops on the bumper, cool-looking grille, creased bonnet and muscular body with design lines flowing right from the headlamps to the tail make the small car very unique in its segment, and surely make it very aggressive and premium.
With an overall length of 3495 mm and width of 1500 mm, the Eon is pretty compact and the design lines with the expressive attention to detail make the vehicle look very nice. Hyundai sells the car in bright sizzling colours, like Pristine Blue, Maharaja Red, Sleep Silver and many others, with body-coloured bumpers, making the vehicle a good attraction on road. The quality of materials is not very good but not very bad either. Apart from the thin body it comes with, the quality of plastic and finishing is really good. Hyundai Eon has very well-thought interior. It is airy and has a cheerful feeling to it. The materials used inside are of very good quality and the finishing of everything is done in a very nice way. Being tall, there is a lot of room inside. The legroom and headroom is ample for four adults and a kid to sit in the vehicle comfortably. Hyundai has used a lot of beige colour to make the car feel premium from the inside. The dashboard has been designed in a curvy and flowing way, and the car feels amazing, especially with the price tag it comes with. Hyundai has tried to keep things very simple and as informative as possible. The instrument panel, for instance, has only three neat pods displaying every information about the vehicle. The steering wheel feels proportionate to the interiors and feels good to hold.
The storage inside the Eon is well managed. On the centre column, the Eon gets a good audio system with premium features. The highlight of interior would be the gear shift indicator that aids the driver in saving a lot of fuel. The small budget car also comes with tilt-steering and front power windows for easy access. The centre console features tiny chrome dipped buttons, which looks snazzy. However, Hyundai could have done a better job on this part. Hyundai Eon has good quality seats and they don’t easily fatigue the occupants. The cabin space, however, is smaller than that of Alto or even Nano. With a boot space of 215 lires, the Hyundai Eon offers a good amount of space for the price it comes at. Even though the Hyundai Eon is an entry-level hatchback in the market, it is equipped with advanced features.
The car gets integrated music system with many advanced features, like radio, CD player, AUX-in, ipod connectivity and USB. These features are often missing from most of the expensive cars and Hyundai has done a good job by providing these unexpected features in the vehicle. There is a set-up of four speakers in the car, which plays the sound relatively well.To manage the space in a better way; Hyundai has installed accessories, like rear parcel tray, cup holders and bottle holders around the vehicle. Powering the Hyundai Eon are two petrol engines, an 814 cc and a 998 cc. The 0.8 litre engine generates 55 hp of power at 5,500 rpm and 74 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, while the 1.0 litre petrol engine generates 68 hp at 6,200 rpm and 94 Nm at 3,500 rpm. Both engines have been tuned for the best balance between performance and fuel efficiency.The Hyundai Eon is offered with a 5 speed manual transmission on both engine options, 0.8 litre and 1.0 litre. There is no automatic or AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) available in the Hyundai Eon’s variants on sale in India.
The Hyundai Eon has a certified mileage of 22.03 kmpl, for the 8.0 litre version and 21.77 kmpl for the 1.0 litre version. The suspension is mainly tuned for city driving, so it is little unpredictable on highways. Ride quality is reasonable, what you will expect from a car of this segment. However, the car remains obedient as long as the road surface is good. The Eon is perfect for city due its small size. Ride quality of the vehicle is decent. The gas-type shock absorbers provide optimum comfort for the occupants and the McPherson struts give the vehicle that stability. The steering is very light, making Eon well suited for Indian roads, but there is no or very little feedback from the steering wheel, making it a lifeless and boring car to drive.
